New Chester, SC Homeschool Co-op

GLOW…God Leads Our Way

I am starting a co-op here in Chester. Currently I have to travel to Fort Mill twice a week to be able to be involved in one. I believe we, as homeschool mothers, have the talents to do this here in Chester and involve other homeschoolers from surrounding areas.
This could be one or two days a week (I prefer two but each member has their own choice to choose which day to come, one or both). Each parent would teach a class or be a helper depending on how many join and you should be able to have an hour off. This is not a drop off facility. We would only teach 4 classes a day. There will be more than four classes to choose from though; you don’t have to take the same classes as everyone else.
There will be a very small registration fee to buy supplies that we don’t have ourselves. And if we have to pay to use a facility (which hopefully my husband has found one or two that we may be able to use for free and hopefully not have to pay).
If the co-op starts off small we will meet at my house…which by the way has a pool and trampoline and many other toys, balls, bikes, scooters, etc. That the kids can use during break time.
We can teach core classes and electives. We can brain storm on these. I called the YMCA the other day about using their facility and he had just spoken to a lady that wants to do a PE class for homeschoolers.
Benefits of homeschooling include: Enrichment Ideas, being around other homeschooling teachers and students, parents and students can get out of  the house – socialization, provide support for mom’s and curriculum, student’s learning can accelerate because they are not held back with their peers as they are in traditional schools. We don’t have to restrict them to grade level but by learning and comprehension level. Learning does not take as long as in traditional schools. Parents will learn as the children learn, family’s grow closer to other homeschooling families, children become friends with all ages and learn to engage with other adults. And as you are well aware of there are many other benefits.
Co-op groups get discount group rates on field trips. There are great field trips for homeschoolers with great discounts and special days and programs for homeschool groups.
Please let me know if this is something you would like to try out. You are more than welcome to sit in on a class or a whole day…which only consists of 4 classes. We will soon have a listing of classes being offered up on http://glowcoop.blogspot.com
